What Does My Gold Discolor My Skin?

Does your gold jewelry give you a rash or discolor your skin?
If so, you may suspect that your gold is not real. However, the
most common discolorations are caused by
metallic that are
harder than the jewelry itself, which will then rub or wear off
tiny particles that will look like a black dust or grease. This
can rub off on skin and clothing, leaving a black or dark green
stain.

Another cause is corrosion of the metals. Gold itself will not
corrode, but the metals that it’s alloyed with can when put into
contact with lotions, soaps, abrasive liquids, and chlorine.
Sometimes a person can have abrasive chemicals in their
perspiration, especially If they take medications for medical
conditions such as diabetes, or high blood pressure.

You might be also allergic to the metals that are alloyed with
the gold in your jewelry. Allergies can begin when you first
wear the jewelry or develop over time, especially if medical
conditions arise or by taking certain medications. Try
switching to white gold or platinum jewelry, since both are
hypoallergenic.
