What Is Platinum?

Platinum is a group of metals known as the Noble metals, for
their high resistance to wear and corrosion. The most popular
and well-known platinum metal is called 950 Platinum. The
950 refers to the purity of the metal. Until recently, it was the
only platinum metal available for use in casting jewelry, so it's
what people think of when they think of platinum.

Platinum group metals are completely hypoallergenic and will
never turn yellow or tarnish. Platinum is more expensive than
gold, but well worth the extra expense. Platinum metals are
superior in hardness to gold, a more durable metal than gold,
and have a harder finish that is less likely to scratch. Platinum
is whiter than the traditional rhodium-plated white gold, will
never tarnish, and is completely hypoallergenic.

950 Platinum is one of the world’s rarest metals. In the 18th
century, King Louis XV declared that platinum was the only
metal fit for a king.
