What Is Tungsten Carbide?

Tungsten carbide is an inorganic chemical compound which contains
equal numbers of tungsten and carbon atoms. In its most basic form,
it is a fine gray powder, but it can be pressed and formed into shapes
for use in industrial machinery, tools, abrasives, and jewelry.

Tungsten carbide is one of the world’s hardest metals, comparable
only to platinum and diamonds. It is four times stiffer than steel and is
much heavier and denser metal than steel or titanium. It is
comparable with a sapphire in hardness and can only be polished
and finished with diamond wheels and compounds. It’s also one of the
most popular alternative metal choices for men’s jewelry, due to its
high strength and durability.

The finish is highly resistant to scratches and scuffs, holding its
mirror-like shine for years. A common misconception about tungsten
carbide rings is they cannot be removed in the course of emergency
medical treatment, requiring the finger to be removed instead.
Emergency rooms and many full-service jewelry repair shops are
equipped with jewelers' saws that can cut through tungsten carbide
rings without injuring the hand or finger.

You can have custom engraving and designs, on both the inside and
the outside of the ring, and tungsten can have diamonds, gemstones,
and inlays set into the ring. All of our tungsten designs can come in a
variety of widths and sizes and are available to order in less than one
week. In some cases, we can have it here the very next day.
